Overview

Easy loop trail on dirt road and dirt trail. Footing is good, nothing too steep, but be aware there is about 500’ of gain. A fair amount of shade provided by oak and bay trees but trail can be very hot and always dusty. A few good views of peaks in the Santa Cruz Mountains and Diablo range. Parking area has a bathroom.

Coyote Open Space Arrowhead Loop
This trail is the only access into the Coyote Valley Open Space Preserve. It's a simple loop trail on a good, single-track trail with a little over 550' of climbing at an average 7% grade. The trail is a mix of open grassland and forest canopy with several vista points signed and some with benches and one picnic site. The Coyote Valley has recently been protected from development so the views of the whole valley floor from these heights gives one a good sense of the total area. The Coyote Valley is the location where the Santa Cruz Mtns and the Diablo Range Mtns come within 2 miles of each other and this area is an important wildlife corridor.
