Day 08: AV1 2022: Coldai to Vazzoler
From Rifugio Coldai, we cross the mountain ridge on path 560 and begin a spectacular day of hiking under the great west face of the Civetta. We will be on an enormous horizontal mountain balcony with three thousand feet down to the valleys below and over three thousand feet of rock wall above. This is one of the finest days of our trek. We will stop for a break at the Rifugio Tissi perched facing the great and constantly tumbling sheer wall face of the Civetta. During the break, do not miss the chance to peak over the cliff into the valley of Lago de Alleghe far below… We continue around the mountain to the south and stop for the night at the Rifugio Vazzoler (1714m). This welcoming hut has a notable alpine flower garden and is located in a shady pine forest directly beneath the stone peak of La Venezia. Be sure to check out the historic photographs in the restaurant of Mario Vazzoler and his cohorts.

7. 2018 AV1: Rif Coldai to Rif Vazzoler - Day Seven
Via Tissi to Vazzoler. Pass the small Lago de Coldai, but be sure to look to the right and see an incredible view of Mt Pelmo in the morning light! Carry on in the shadow of a very actively crumbling face of the Civetta (the Owl) - you will likely hear rock falls here - toward Rif Tissi and some lovely dramatic views of the town and lake of Alleghe below. A massive landslide in the 1850s blocked a river and created the lake you see below. Next turn more southerly and pass through a serene valley and finally begin the descent down the jeep road to Vazzoler and its lovely stone walls and botanical gardens. There is a grand sense of scale to today's walking, with the aspect of distant hills changing from West to South throughout the day.
