Overview

This is a easy loop trail in southern New Hampshire. This route crosses mature hardwood and softwood forests, historical farm fields and pastures and passes numerous cellar holes from the settlement of Monson (1737-1770). You will see a large beaver pond that doubles as a heron rookery from spring-summer each year.

This trail goes by Monson Center and Chicarello Land.

Getting Started

You may park in the parking lots on either side of Federal Hill Road near the Adams Road entrance to Monson. Be careful not to block any other cars when parking here.

Taking Children

This loop does not involve any hills so is very doable by children and seniors. ( A 9 on a scale of 1-10). Children enjoy the heron/beaver pond, the acres of mowed fields surrounded by stone walls as well as the stream crossings and historical cellar holes.

Easy wide gravel path with trail to rookery marked with yellow dots. Follow the rock wall & bluebird house lined dirt road through a gorgeous meadow. At the old home, take a left on the path leading to the forest. Follow the yellow paint spots on the trees to the rookery.
