Overview
This is a easy out and back trail to Heart Lake in Castle Crags Wilderness.
This trail goes by Little Castle Lake/Mt. Bradley Trailhead.
The Mount Shasta Trail Association working with the Wilderness Trust and Shasta-Trinity National Forest defined a single trail to Heart Lake in 2021. It replaced a network of informal trails that were wiping out wildflower beds and causing erosion. Please follow the new trail and avoid getting off of it.
Getting Started
Park at the end of the Castle Lake Road. Head clockwise along the shore of Castle Lake for a bit before crossing the outlet stream on stepping stones. The trail is obvious from there.
Taking Children
The new trail is suitable for young children.
