8/2/26 - Lassen Peak California Tortoiseshell Butterfly
Lassen Peak California Tortoiseshell Butterfly started 3 weeks ago per Charles from Yuba City in his first visit. 2 weeks ago should be the peak with butterflies everywhere in his 2nd visit. He was afraid to open his mouth as so many butterflies around. Steve, his friend, reported same as lot last weekend. Therefore, both of them came back This year is best in his about 20 years Lassen Trip. My best Lassen Peak experience even after peak for about 2 weeks. Was thinking too late as almost no butterflies on Saturday Brokeoff Mountain hike and same only a few on the way up and first 1+ hour on Lassen Peak. More and more came after 10:30am with likely peak about noon time. Spent almost 4 hours on the top from 9:20 at Lassen Summit and back there at about 1:10pm. Bumpass Hell 3 miles wildflowers after 4.7 miles Lassen Peak as will be very hot to go down to lower elevation. About 100F at about 7pm.
7:45 - Heading out from Lassen Peak parking lot
9:20 - Lassen peak Summit View Point on the top with only a few butterflies showed up and a few on the way up
9:50 - Lassen Peak via the ridge with only a few butterflies
10:45 - Decided to stay instead of heading to Lassen peak Crater as more and more butterflies came
12:35 - Decided to heading back as looks less dense butterflies
1:10 - Back to Summit View Point with almost 4 hours on the top to experience tens or hundreds of thousands of California Tortoiseshell Butterfly, not sure still millions as everywhere on the top.
2:35 - Back to parking lot
