Day 5: Purple Lake, Silver Pass, Silver Pass Lake Camp
After 4 days of big miles, difficult weather, and knee problems, this was a much needed light day. Short mileage and a relatively easy pass mean for an early camp. Silver Pass Lake was a spectacular campsite. I found a campsite among the boulders on a slope north of the lake. The lake itself had a gorgeous and long stretch of sandy beach that was the perfect place to set up the camp chair and read. I even managed to go for a swim for the first time on the trial. The water was surprisingly warm for Sierra standards. I enjoyed dinner on the beach with Tracy and a kick ass mom who was doing the trail with her two teenage boys and niece. After watching a spectacular sunset, I decided to turn in early. This proved to be one of my favorite campsites on the trail.
