Counter-clockwise loop beginning and ending at Ferncroft parking lot via Blueberry Ledge Trail, Rollins, Dicey’s Mill up to Passaconaway summit, Walden back down to Dicey’s Mill and a roughly 4 mile gentle downhill walkout to finish.
Challenging solo hike up the ledges and steep sections. Trail was well packed out on all trails and nano’s or micro’s were appropriate throughout. No views today, but the forest setting, and in particular the descent of Dicey’s Mill Trail as it follows the brook, is spectacular. One of my favorite loops in the Whites. Walden Trail is a very steep way to descend or ascend Passaconaway’s summit. Dicey’s Mill is much gentler.

Mount Whiteface and Passaconaway loop track
Overall, quite an enjoyable hike. Moderate up to the approach of Mount Whiteface. The ascent included boulders and slab sections and a cliff section that was fun. There were some viewpoints that offered spectacular views. The summit of Whiteface was in the trees and could easily be missed if not paying attention.
The ridge was rolling and moderate with some viewing areas.
Mount Passaconaway summit did not have a view. The ascent and descent was steep. Dicey's Mill trail was mostly low grade sections with rock boulder steps in between. I was amazed at how well the steps were built.
