Independence Mountain Trail - Pence Park
Overview
This trail is located in Evergreen, CO and can be rated as a moderate-easy trail. Most of this trail is shaded in the forest. The last portion of the trail becomes rocky with less tree cover. The surrounding towns can be seen throughout certain portions of the trail.
The trail has some very mild rock scrambling throughout, but the trail is usually found pretty easily. It can be a little challenging to find the trail after the first 1/4 mile in during the wintertime depending on snow pack, so a GPS or other personal device would be recommended if not familiar with area.
There are a few moderately steep portions on this trail covered with rocks, and the very top has a beautiful lookout but some moderate rock scrambling is required.
This trail surrounds private property so please be aware of surroundings.
In winter this trail can get very icy in the shaded woods portion, spikes or traction recommended particularly on the steep portions.
In the warmer months, spring, summer, and fall, this trail can get crowded so recommended to go early or late.
With the shortness and moderately steepness of the trail, this is a great option for a short hike or trail run!
Getting Started
Pence Park has a small parking lot that can get overcrowded in more popular months so parking may be hard to come by at certain times. Trailhead is right out of parking lot.
