Bench Loop via Ewoldsen trail(edit)

Overview

This is a moderate loop trail to Bench in Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park.

This trail goes by Pelton Wheel.

The Ewoldsen trail starts from the Canyon trail and gains elevation through a redwood forest. This trail splits into a loop around the canyon after 1.5 miles. The west half of the loop is open, the east half of the loop is CLOSED (as of 7/2025 due to the Dolan Fire damage). The total trail from the parking lot and back is about 5 miles / 8km. Pocket views of the coast can be seen from the western side of the loop.

The McWay Falls trail is partially closed as of 4/2025.

Getting Started

Parking area requires cash payment of $10 for parking. The parking area is small. Parking on the side of the road is not encouraged. Rangers are often around to check payment.

Taking Children

Not ideal for younger children due to cliffs.
