Summited with Timberline Mountain Guide Aaron Hartz. Started at Timberline Lodge with the mountain appearing to be socked in above Wilcox Hut. Climbed to the top of the ski lift in heavy freezing mist. Clouds started to slowly clear above the ski lift. Wind picked up as we stopped for a rest on a ridge with 30mph winds and 20 degree temps. Hard time getting back going, with cold muscles, but resumed a rhythm. In Devil's Kitchen, the sun started to rise and wind died down. We climbed above the clouds. Fumeroles were active with sulfur smell. We short roped up and Aaron led us to the Old Chute. He belayed me to the top with a short ridge run to the summit. 7 hours up, topping out at around 7:45 am (PCT). We descended same route in 3.5 hours. 10.5 hour roundtrip.
Ascent via Pearly Gates (hikers left route). Descent via Old Chute. Conditions were good. A little icy on the entrance to Old Chute, but otherwise find and good coverage.
Very steep up through the Pearly Gates. Skiers dropping in and climbing up on the north side (cooper spur).
