Shope Creek in the Pisgah National Forest offers some great hiking with mature forest at higher elevation. This was a nice short 2-mile hike with a 500 ft elevation gain along Shope Creek to a small, beautiful waterfall (Forrest Falls). The trail starts out as an old narrow gravel logging road but ascends and follows the edge of a narrow gorge carved out by Shope Creek with numerous cascades. The gorge is lined with rhododendrons.
