Overview
The Thompson Creek Trail is a short but steep climb, providing direct access to the upper part of the Pilot Rock Trail. At the end, taking a left on Pilot Rock will take you toward the Blue Ridge Parkway, while taking a right leads to a steep descent, passing the views at the open rock outcrops of Pilot Rock.
Getting Started
The trailhead is located on Yellowgap Road in the Pisgah Ranger District. This gravel road is affected by seasonal closures, and can have large potholes at times. Check the Pisgah NF web site for road closures, and low clearance vehicles should drive with caution.
Taking Children
This is a steep trail that may not be suitable for young children.

Thompson Creek
trail_hike_comments: Climbs steeply from FS 1206 to the Pilot Rock trail near the summit of Little Bald Mountain. Starts in a cove with one significant creek crossing, through young cove forest. Winds up passing through several switchbacks into an older, yet shorter, gnarled forest and thickets of mountain laurel., trail_bike_comments: None
