Hotshots Trail
Overview
This is a moderate out and back trail in Arizona.
Getting Started
The Granite Mountain Hotshots trail is dedicated to those brave men who gave their life fighting a fire that broke out on June 28, 2012 in the Weaver Mountains near Yarnell.
You can access the traihead two miles south of Yarnell on highway 89. There is a park ranger stationed at the trailhead with maps and information about the site. There is no water but portable restrooms are available.
This is a seven mile out and back hike that has over 200 stairs, benches, memorials, plaques and an observation deck along the trial. The end of the trail has a memorial with 19 gabion baskets where many people have left tributes. Hiking this trail will give you a good sense of the tough conditions these men faced. I highly recommend this trek.
Taking Children
This will be a tough hike for children.
