Red Rocks Park Loop via Turkey Trot Trail and Castle Trail
Overview
An easy, meandering hike near Red Rocks Park.
The trail winds along a rocky trail through low scrub and pine forest with alternating sunshine and shady woods. Low-moderately steep inclines get your heart going. Switchbacks and open stopping points help to manage the climb for a counter-clockwise approach.
The descent, or clockwise approach, is a wider path, has fewer switchbacks, and is more exposed.
Getting Started
Parking is a paved lot at the trailhead and is a no-fee area. There is a brick and mortar outhouse that is clean and well maintained and stocked with paper. A covered picnic area is present at the trailhead and provides a shaded waiting area for group meet ups and post hike cool down. A trash barrel is also present, so carry out your trash and dog droppings without worry of driving home with it in your trunk. The lot is small for weekend traffic, and many park on the shoulder heading out of a full lot.
Taking Children
Kids who can handle a 3 mile loop with hills will enjoy this hike for its variety of nature, and spectacular view of red rock formations and the city of Denver in the distance.
