Overview

This is an easy-to-moderate loop trail in Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.

This loop can be made in either direction. The trail on the left provides a flat route for nearly half the way, but the ascent up Solstice Canyon is steep. Starting to the right will bring you to the top of the canyon, and beautiful ocean views, with a lot less exertion.

Bring plenty of water and wear a hat - the sun here is unforgiving.

Getting Started

Parking here can be very difficult. There is overflow parking further up the main road.

Taking Children

This is a good hike for kids, especially if you start to the left and make it an out-and-back trip to the tropical terrace

I've done this hike many times. I went on Sunday. Water trickles from the waterfall. A fellow hiker saw a bobcat by the creek. We took the high ground & could hear it hissing down below, not sure at what. It's mostly dry, but nice trail to get outdoors on.
