Bear Lake via Superior Hiking Trail(edit)

Hike on Superior Hiking Trail to Bean and Bear Lakes Martha and Renner. We got two AllTrails verified completed banners for this trail. One, the one we intended to do, named the Superior Hiking Trail: Bean and Bear Lake Loop, and another, named Superior Hiking Trail: Bean and Bear Lakes, which completely overlapped the first trail. What a bargain. Two for the price of one. After completing our 7 mile hike it felt more like two for the price of three! This was a rugged hike. The last time we hiked the same loop was November 1, 20104, almost 6 years ago. There’s a difference between being age 74 and age 68. Back in 2014 we hiked the very same route but we did not go up Elam’s Knob Overlook which we did this time. That added a little additional distance. In my description of the hike back in 2014 said the views of the lakes were spectacular. The hiking was rugged. This time I would say the views of the lakes were spectacular. The hiking was RUGGED! The distance was 7 miles, the ascent 872 feet. In comparison the climb up to Observation Point in Zion National Park was 7.69 miles, ascent was 2,213 feet BUT the trail in Zion was much easier because it was smooth without big rocks and boulders that you had to pick your way through as on the Superior Hiking Trail. Average mile per hour at Zion was 1.1 mph. Average miles per hour today was 1.2 mph. Back in 2014 we hiked 6.74 miles which took 4 hours 21 minutes. Today we hiked 6.99 miles which took 5 hours and 46 minutes. We must be getting older.
