Rocky Peak Trail
Overview
This is a moderate out and back trail to Rocky Peak in Simi Valley in California.
Getting Started
The trail head is on the north side of the street on Rocky Peak Road and the 118 Freeway (or Santa Susana Pass Road). There is a small dirt parking lot on the northern end which is frequently full. On the other side of the freeway on the tee at Rocky Peak and Santa Susana Pass there is more parking.
There are no entrance or parking fees.
The trail is mostly a dirt fire road and you are gaining altitude for the first couple of miles. At about 2.4 miles there is a trail on the right which you'll follow to the peak. You'll actually follow the hike to a rock peak and then have to go down again to get the actual Rocky Peak. This past part is a little difficult.
There are excellent views along the way. On the way there are two trails on the left the first a trail connecting to Corriganville Park that goes under the freeway. The second is Hummingbird trail that goes to Kuehner drive. You can also continue on beyond the turn off for Rocky Peak.
Dogs on a leash are okay: https://mrca.ca.gov/parks/park-listing/rocky-peak-park/
This trail is frequently used by mountain bike riders, sometimes they come back down the hill very fast and present a little bit of a safety issue.
Taking Children
No facilities, and it's a strenuous climb, but the road is wide the rocks are fun to walk on. It's in and out so you can turn around at any point. Just watch out for the mountain bikes.
