I’d love to rate this as a 4.5 instead of 4. Much fun hike, but sadly no views until the summit. I would love to go back and do this again when the upper mountain has some snow. There was some ice on the trail but spikes not needed, YET. I would bring them from now on as it will only get colder and more slick up there. At the summit I had views of Seekseekqua (Jefferson), Wy’east (Hood) and also Faith, Hope and Charity (the Three Sisters) as well as the ocean!Definitely will be coming back!

Mary’s Peak East Ridge trail hike
It was one of those foggy days in the valley, so time to head up the hill. Fog line at 1500 feet as usual in the Mary’s Peak road. Started our hike from Conners Camp. Encountered the first snow at around 3500 feet, there were a number of slippery areas to negotiate. Views from the top were better than I think I have ever seen. Could clearly see all the way up to Mount Rainier in the north. A wide expanse of ocean out to the west could be seen, further out than I can recall. You could almost see the ski runs on Mount Bachelor. Wish we had taken the binoculars. Lots of people out and about today. About two inches of snow on the ground in top. Temperature up there in the mid 40s, only about ten degrees warmer than the thirties in the valley, so not a real sharp inversion.
East Ridge Trail hike
For her birthday, Mom and I hiked up to the top of Marys Peak via the Eastridge trail, which starts at Connor‘s camp. It was nice and cool in the old growth forest heading up the hill but surprisingly warm with very little wind up on top. The sun was shining, but they were clouds in places and also a lot of smoke blowing up from the immigrant fire, which is down southwest of diamond Peak. Therefore the visibility was not very good today. The upper part of the trail was fairly rocky and steep in some sections so we had to be careful coming down. Once we got down to the main trail, it was in good condition.
