South Side Flat Top Trail
Overview
A go to hike if you need a quick trip up a mountain. Commonly called the Back side of Flat Top, this route has been used for ages, especially by locals training for a mountain run. Trail improvements i.e. switchbacks and even a couple steps, where made a few years ago. This is an easier route up Flat Top than the more common trail leaving from Glen Alps parking lot. No boulder scrambling. The new switchbacks are not shown on the route posted here.
The top really is pretty flat and nice views of Anchorage, Turnagain Arm, Kenai Peninsula, FIre Island and beyond.
Getting Started
Take Upper DeArmoun Road to Canyon Road. A State of AK, Parks parking pass is required. You can buy an annual pass or pay $5 per day. Flat Top, Peak 2 and Peak 3 can all be accessed from this trailhead. Looking at the ridge, Flat Top is the left most peak.
Taking Children
Kids and dogs would be fine on this hike.
