The trail is quite dusty this time of year, but the views are spectacular. Be aware of cooler temperatures in the late afternoon/evening. At the peak, stay right on the single track to reach the true peak.

Ellis Peak from Barker Pass

This trail features awesome views in almost every direction, plus a great view of Lake Tahoe from the summit. We managed to get off the trail about a quarter mile before the summit (followed some folks who didn't know where they were going). The trail breaks right off the road; it is hard to spot. Either way works, though.
