We backpacked a variation on this in late May.
Pros: beautiful wildflowers and bird song, nice campsites, well-blazed trails, plenty of water availability (see below).
Cons: It had been raining for several days, and the Little Stony Creek Trail was more like a creek itself than like a trail. The entire mountainside drains across the trail into Little Stony Creek. Most of the time, we were able to avoid water more than a few inches deep (and were grateful for waterproof boots), but there was one point when we needed to get our water shoes on to get through an area that was 6-8 inches deep.
