On Wednesday we headed east from Lock 21 on the Hennepin Canal Trail. The elevation drop heading toward the Illinois River was gradual with many locks and bridges. Plenty of places for the public to access the path. We dropped Kevin’s suv off a at Lock 7 four miles south of Princeton. This was 10 miles from the start. Returning to Lock 21 we took off late morning. We made Lock 7 with ease. We proceeded past it toward Bureau Junction near the Illinois River. Several locks were blocked creating impoundments. Finally the Trail was washed out about 4 miles from the River. Turning around we braved the wind and a slight uphill for the 4 miles back to the car. Total trip was 20 miles.
