Dylan McKenzie June 15, 2016 We camped at the fork, which was about 2.3 miles in from the parking lot. It is not necissary to hike in and camp, other than for the fun of it. The time you would save sleeping in your car vs. packing up your gear and hiding it would equate, since the sites are only 2.3 miles in. TONS of campsites, I counted one leanto at the fork with about 5-6 large tent sites. Then if you take the fork left (towards Dix Mtn., not Macomb) about 100 yards, you will find 2-3 more campsites off the trail. We hit Macomb first, which is most common, since the way we came down from Dix was very steep and fast. Plus you get the reward of the best view of the 5 last. But either way you go is fine. We are strong hikers, but we took our time resting and taking pictures, as you can tell from the 6 hours of stopped time. BRING at least 3 liters of water, you wont find any water sources after the rocky slide going up macomb, through the 5 peaks, until you are on your way down from Dix, which doesn't accumulate until the bottom.
