PISECO TO WEST CANADA LAKES This section of trail ascends a shoulder of land and then continues to rise to a large plateau of sorts that links Spruce Lake with the West Canada Lakes area. The terrain varies from swamp flats to rolling hills, from dense, dark spruce thickets to the awesome vista from the bridge over the outlet of South Lake. This part of the trail receives relatively little use. In fact, you often get the feeling that you’re eerily alone in this wilderness. And you may be, especially from late fall through spring. The area has a rich history in logging and woods sports. Hermits such as Foxes Brown (David Brennan) and Alva Dunning made their mark here, along with the famous Adirondack “French Louie,” Louis Seymour. The are is one to be savored.
