Made good time to jct. of Cow Cr. Tr. and Black Canyon. From there it took two hours to get to the summit of Dark Mt., and it’s under two miles. Had a good time climbing a couple of the outcrops along the eastern ridge of Dark Mt. I tried to take as direct a route as possible going up, and this kept me right on the edge of the ridge until I got to the flat area about 600’ vertical below the summit. That last bit was a real grunt. I signed the register, took a couple of photos, and left, as I was up against my noon turnaround time. Not real easy coming off this hill, either, but Gaia and some ad libbing got me back to the trail on the north side of the height of land in about an hour. Just before the Bridalveil Falls Tr. jct. I thrashed over to Cow Cr. and sat in the water for 5 or 10 min. Still very cold, but highly effective in soothing hip, knee, and foot discomfort after you’ve been walking too long. It made the last 2 miles much more pleasant.
