My good friend Bonker was in town so I thought I would show him some Florida hiking. I had heard of Bull Creek Wildlife Management Area and wanted to go. We weren't quite ready to do the entire loop trail, so we decided to the northern section of the trail and loop around on some of the roads, making sure to visit the Crabgrass Cemetery. There is a nice mix of scenery on this hike, canopied forest, swampy creek crossings on raised board bridges, pinewood flats, and open scrub. There is also a cemetery in the area. Cemeteries are sobering places to visit, a reminder that life will end. I like to read tombstones to see if I can get a sense of the lives of people that have gone before. It was a small cemetery and only one inscription stood out, "Katherine Lanier, 1816-1895, As a wife devoted, as a mother beloved, from loved ones on earth she parted, to join the angels above"
