Roanoke County officially opened this park/trail a few days before the date of my hike. The foliage was at its peak colors during my trip with an array of bright reds, yellows, and oranges. It was so nice I almost forgot the weather was not cooperating. The 1.9 mile trail ends at Buzzard Rocks, about 100 feet short of the summit of Read Mountain. The total elevation gain of the trip is over 1,000 vertical feet. The trail is well marked with a blue blaze. This was my second time up Read Mountain and I like to call it my local mountain because it is the closest mountain to where I live at the moment.
