Located just outside the Flatside Wilderness, Flatside Pinnacle is a 1,550 foot mountain with views for miles and miles and more miles still on a clear day.

At around 3/4 mile round trip, this short hike is a fairly steep but easy climb, and it loops around the mountain as you work your way to the top. Super Leeds and I visited on the back end of hiking day, and we'd already done many miles. It was a great place to hang out for a while and just absorb the incredible views.

It's very easy to get here, the parking is obvious, and you can't miss the trail head that's right by it. While you do have 10 miles (or more depending on which direction you come in from) of dirt road, it's largely in decent shape. The roads we took today were narrow though, and looked as though they had been recently graded.

Flatside is a stop along the way on the Ouchita National Recreation Trail, a 213 mile monster of a trek that winds through the Ouchita National Forest. There's not a lot of room at the top of Flatside, but by the remnants of an old camp fire up there it looked as though campers have used this spot to end there day do. Good decision in my view!

It was getting late Tempted as we were to stay and watch the sun fully set, we elected to hit the trail home. We were about 10 miles away from asphalt, and while these forest roads were in pretty good shape, you never know what you'll come across. Getting out before dark seemed like the better plan to me. There are 5 waterfall spots close by, We'll be back here again at a rainier time to visit these down line.

Cell Phone Signal - YES at the top. Very limited, even non existent as you drive to and from it however.
Kid Friendly: Yes, they'll love it. Always be mindful of small children, in fact of all children at the top of this one!
