This has been a favorite camping spot for me since I was a kid going with my dad. It’s a great one for a day hike, or hiking in late just to get out doors. We made it a Friday Saturday camp for a quick get away. This late in the season it was quiet at night, but the trail is hugely popular come Saturday morning. Many just come for a picnic at the campground and hike back out. Friday night makes it easier because most the day hikers are gone, otherwise parking can be very hard to find. We took the same trail back that we came in on, but it can also be done as a loop using the Lower Winter Creak Trail. The area is one of the few places that has water year round. It’s also a nice shady spot with a canopy provided by large oaks. For being so easy to get to, some forget it is considered bear country, so be prepared to properly store your food. I have personally seen them at the campground ( brown bear that is relatively harmless if you leave it alone. Highly recommended.
