Liberty overnight
I drove to The Basin parking lot and got going at 8:20, too early as it turned out. The cut-off to Liberty Spring was broken. I used my GaiaGPS.com previous track to locate it. Microspikes the whole way, compliments of Bob H.'s trip report from the day before. However, it started to snow and kept snowing lightly until early the next morning.
After the ascent, I had camp set up by 1pm, so I decided to stay warm by hiking to Flume. On the way back I took a wrong turn at Mt Liberty and ended up heading toward Mt Flume again. I realized my mistake and had to head back up the steep ascent to Mt Liberty, where I took the proper course back to camp. I cooked Mountain House spaghetti, ate it all, got warm in the new sleeping bag arrangement by 5pm.
With three calls of nature and no pee bottle, I stayed in the sack until almost 8am---15 hours altogether. The snow overnight accumulated about 3". My Tyvek shell worked fine, but I need a better way to seal it at the head end---more Velcro or some other method, probably a zipper. The enlarged outer bag was very warm.
After packing up, I started down about 9am and met many groups on their way up. I was really tired at the end and arrived back at the car about 11:45. Altogether, a nice overnight but without any views of sunset or sunrise.
Summary: overnight just off Franconia Ridge Trail, ~9.5 miles to Mt Liberty and Mt Flume
