I took this weekend to bag the highpoints of Roanoke and Montgomery Counties, located on two separate summits of Poor Mountain. The best access to these hikes is to take Honeysuckle Road up to the antenna ridden ridge line of Poor Mountain. This gravel road is fairly steep, but most two wheel drive vehicles should make it in good weather. The Montgomery County highpoint is located past the parking area for the Roanoke County highpoint. Continue on Honeysuckle Road until a red gate, which is the parking area. At this point, I started up the mountain. There are some nice views at the top, due to powerlines, which create some open vistas.
