Points of Interest
The Points of Interest (POI) screen lets you view nearby landmarks, and search by entering addresses and placenames. Gaia GPS indexes over 10,000,000 waypoints around the world, including parks, forests, campsites, lakes, trailheads, and other interesting places. In many cases, POIs have one or more reports linked to them, from various websites.
These waypoints also display on the map - each time you pan or zoom the map, Gaia GPS fetches waypoints from the internet. If you are wondering why some waypoints show up in the search list but not on the map, the reason is the POIs are broken down by zoom level on the map to avoid clutter. If you zoom in to the deepest level on the map, you can see all waypoints.
1. Search near me - Press this button to find nearby landmarks.
2. Search results - Click a row in the table to view the Detail Screen for that POI. Via the Detail Screen, you can do a number of things:
- Get guidance to the waypoint
- Save the waypoint's information for offline use
- Get driving directions to the waypoint (the app will close and open Google Maps)
- Email the waypoint's information.
